WEAVING YARN

Shilasdair natural dye a range of weaving yarns , both from stock and to commission for Scottish weavers currently producing blankets, shawls and throws.  A natural dyed tartan collaboration is also planned - watch this space! The two examples of woven plaids, dyed with indigo, logwood and tansy, show woven effects on small width pieces (about 15 cm). On wide pieces the tonal variation produced by natural dyeing is more diffuse, producing an 'antique' look -  it was for this antique look that Eva was chosen to natural-dye for the Great Bed of Ware coverlet in the Millenium exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum.

The two shade range graphics show the variation exhibited in windings of 2/18 NM worsted, onto 2cm wide card to show the variation in an emphasized form.  As can be seen, tonal variation is highest in the greens and purples, and more subdued in other shades. Our yarns are popular in the Handweaver's Studio, London, and if you are a weaver looking for something different - perhaps more 'authentic' -  please contact us. Stock weaving Yarns 2/12 and 2/18 NM worsted in 16 shades - send for shade card. Commissions. We will consider anything! Dye lots of up to 20 kg per shade are possible.
